Barcelona is to completely ban prostitution on the streets of the city before the summer. The CiU Municipal Government has supported a proposal from the PP which would enforce the prohibition and toughen the existing fines. The Deputy Mayor and the councillor responsible for safety, Joaquín Forn, has defended the ‘clear commitment’ of the City Hall to eradicate the practice and said that instruments to prioritise a firmer action against the clients would also be undertaken, including higher fines. Sub Saharan prostitutes are often seen approaching drunk tourists in La Rambla in the city.
