Organised crime on the Costa del Sol. Surinenglish.com

Organised crime on the Costa del Sol. Surinenglish.com: "The Italian mafia coined the phrase Costa Nostra to refer to the Spanish coastline. Since 2000, the police have arrested six important members of the organisation in Malaga, Marbella, Fuengirola and Rincón de la Victoria as well as three others from the N'Drangheta, the Calabrian mafia, which controls the entry points of cocaine into Europe.
The tentacles of the Russian mafia have also extended onto the Costa del Sol. In 2005, police operation 'Avispa' focused on the presence of members of groups from the former USSR who had settled in this region. Twenty two of the twenty eight people arrested in this police operation were considered ‘vor z konen’, which is the equivalent of the Italian ‘capo di tutti capi’, or chief of chiefs; this is the highest attainable position in the world of crime. Three years later came 'Troika', another police operation based in Malaga against the Russian mafia organisation. On that occasion, thirteen people were arrested in the province."
